Red Tomatoes wins Santa Anita feature

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -Red Tomatoes won for the first time in more than a year, edging Small But Mighty by a half-length in Thursday’s $42,800 Cambria Purse for California-bred fillies and mares at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Red Tomatoes covered six furlongs in 1:09.97 and paid $22.80, $11.40 and $6.20 at 10-1 odds. The filly last won on Aug. 25, 2008, at Del Mar.
Small But Mighty returned $19.40 and $10, while Easy Ashley was another half-length back in third and paid $4.20 to show.
“Everything seemed to go wrong at Del Mar after she had broken her maiden,” trainer Marty Jones said. “So we had to give her a lot of time off, but she had been training great in preparation for this.”
The victory, worth $24,200, increased Red Tomatoes’ career earnings to $58,660, with two wins in four starts.
